Pamper Yourself

I believe you can’t be much help to yourself or others without taking good care of yourself. Some of us have such a problem doing this as we are not used to putting ourselves first. The reason why this is so important is because we all need mental and physical down time. Pampering tends to be something that ensures you are getting in relaxation time. Pampering can range from facials, manicures, enjoying a guilty pleasure, massage, etc. So many of us are on the go, go, go and could use that time to help our bodies rejuvenate versus just getting the rest. I am just going to share a few steps that I think are helpful.

Pamper1

1. Mind Relaxation

This first step is key to the start of your down time. Many people that don’t make this time may find themselves not sleeping well at times as they are not allowing their mind time to just rest. I know I have run into lack of sleeping when I have a lot going on due to not taking a mental break. It is as though my brain is still searching for solutions to whatever I am still working on while attempting to sleep. I have at times find myself praying asking God to help me let my mind rest because I was needing a restful night. You have to find what works for you. This may be meditation, it may be sitting on the patio reading a book, it maybe journaling, or working out. I have found any of these do help. I think meditation takes a little more concentration than many realize but have been wanting to try it. Reading won’t work for everyone, but for those it does allows us to get away and get into another story for sometime. I personally find a good book and a glass of wine can allow me to just let go, drop my shoulders, and indulge in someone else’s life. As for writing, I enjoy journaling and just writing. Some of us need an outlet for our day as we may not want to verbally discuss it. I at one point wrote in my journal as though they were letters to God and sharing about my week and daily challenges. Journaling for some will be so keen because they don’t have to explain their actions or thoughts to anyone but it is a way to let go of that day or events. As many researchers have shown, working out helps those relax as they are working off the frustration and releasing toxins from their bodies. I don’t think I have ever heard one person say after working out they still felt heavy about their day. It may not have solved everything, but they definitely feel better.

2. Body Down Time

We are just a spirit inside of a shell. Our exterior shell touches everything and provides our senses. Take a moment and think about how much you use your hands, feet, ears, and legs. We use these daily and for everything we do for the most part. These parts are in motion from the day you are born until the day we take our last breath for most. We have to learn to take time for these parts to rest as well. As we rest, these parts rest as well. However, other things to consider would be massages, mani/pedis, facials, steam rooms, yoga, etc. I wonder for those that haven’t tried any of these, if you are willing to. I haven’t always been the biggest believer in these things but they do help. Massages help in multiple ways as they have been said to help with circulation, releasing toxins, helps with anxiety, and headaches.  Many times during these services they have on serine music to help your mind relax as well. I love these times as well. I can go in with my hair in a ponytail, no make up, sweats, flip flops. I have been known during massages and facials to get some good sleep. I recall once waking myself up because I was snoring. LOL. I know these are not always the cheapest activities to look into and I hear people say that this is why they may not try these. Keep in mind many places may offer some discounts for first time customers, check places like Groupon or Living Social, and think of other alternatives. I know sometimes my girls and I will find things we can do like this as a fun girls night. We have looked up recipes for at home facials, items to soak your feet in, and hair treatments. I want men to know as well, these are not only for women. A women loves nothing more than a man that take care of himself. I am not saying if he doesn’t do these things that he doesn’t. However, in the last few years I have heard women say more about noticing a mans hands and feet. I dated one guy that was willing to go with me from time to time and he tended to enjoy it for the same reasons I did. I also would offer to soak his feet and clip his toenails just as something relaxing for him.

3. Help your Soul Glow

( I wrote that and it took me back to the part in Coming to America discussing that… LOL. Forgive me, I digress)

Our mind, body, and souls are connected. We not only need to take care of one piece, but all of them. I have found that the way I feel impacts all these areas. If my mind is cluttered, my soul is normally heavy and I am tired. For me, my soul glows as I interact and learn about people. It also tends to shine a little brighter when I have made time for God, family, friends, and doing things I enjoy. We have to learn what helps the most. I say for me it is my growing with the Lord. Don’t get me wrong, I am far from perfect. I sin everyday, just like everyone else. I have my own struggles that people may not assume by looking at me. However, I still have to get the word in to remind myself that my challenges and mistakes are failures that can be used toward my success. I am not alone in this. As I get the word in, it also helps clear my mind. I find I don’t stress as much which gives my mind some downtime. I used worry and stress over so much, but have come a long way with growing in my relationship with God. If you still aren’t sure on this… I will share that at times you don’t realize how your soul shows. I say it shows because I have had people say it is just something about your soul.

This won’t be received by everyone and that is ok. Those of you that needed this reminder will be good with it. Take time for you and find what you need to flourish. This act does not make you selfish, it makes you smart. It takes so many people so long to self evaluate and realize what helps them be in a better place. I ask you to take time to figure this out as it will help with the way you handle things. Don’t feel guilty for needing to make time for yourself and take care of yourself. These three listed above all interact to keep you in a good space.

Reality vs Reality TV

In my days coming up, we didn’t have cable in the household. My mom was not in agreement on spending the extra $$$$ on it. I can’t say that I felt I missed too much. It seemed like back then without cable you missed seeing all the new videos, cartoon network, and other shows that I may not have understood anyway due to being a little naïve and sheltered back in the day. I never felt I was missing out though, we had shows like The Cosby’s, Dawson’s Creek, 90210, Saved By the Bell, Full House, Cheers, Martin, Family Matters. Now a days you hardly hear of people without cable and some form of reality television show that the entire family watches weekly.

Reality TV has become one of the newest biggest phenomenon’s. The shows based around peoples real lives have become a new norm for society. I am not sure if it has anything to do with people wanting to know how stars live or just see what other people go through in their everyday life. Looking over the TV line up there is: American Idol, The Voice, Real Housewives of Atlanta, The Bachelor, Big Brother, Survivor, The Vanderpumps, Biggest Loser, Love and Hip Hop, The Real World, just to name a few. Many of the reality shows out are of great value as they share so many positive things. They show people on the journey to their dreams, surviving unique conditions, finding love, and much more. So many of these shows don’t have a great angle shown, not saying life is normally all glitz and glam. However, some of it is just over the top. I find myself wondering if these people are really like this or if it is just for the ratings. I am not a huge reality television person but have watched it from time to time with people that I hang with. I have prior to writing this taken time to catch up on some to provide a clear opinion for myself.

I surely hope that most people are watching certain reality shows as a way to allow their brain to rest. We all have those shows that no one understands why we watch them nor requires our brain to work while watching.I have nothing personally against any of these people that were granted an opportunity to share their everyday ins and outs. After all, who would pass up an opportunity like this to share your view of the world and who you really are??

The largest issue I see behind so many of them is it seems that the nastier or more drama filled you are the more opportunity that seems to come your way. I find this shocking as it really goes against the wonderful golden rule of treating others as we want to be treated.

Colaberry School Of Data Analytics

“The smartest person can be outdone by someone with the strongest passion to succeed”

-Alex Gibson

We all had a future planned out and an idea of the way life would pan out. Your plan may have been to go to college, military, or a tech school. As many of you know, life rarely goes as planned and I discuss this in a prior blog that discusses the Evolution of Success. I am a huge supporter of getting an education but realize everyone does not feel the same way. I was a first generation college kid and know the struggles that come with trying to complete an education program while working and juggling what life sends your way. Well folks… One of my high school buddies, Ali Muwwakkil, just happens to be leadership at a wonderful school that I believe isn’t getting the attention that it is due. I was so glad when we were able to catch up and to only find there are more of our high school friends that are involved with this operation.

If you have been looking for something that is affordable, offers different ways to gain knowledge around your busy schedule, and a way to gain experience that will always be useful… I hope you will continue reading. Colaberry School of Data Analytics is a school that is ran by people that have been in the field and started a school to assist others. It was started in 2005 and has been thriving since. I spent time this past weekend at this school to see what all the hype was about. I met with the two running the program here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and heard some from the leadership in Boston.

Education Provided

The school offers the students a chance to learn data analytics. Data analytics allows companies to run data based on what is being bought, what times, and what locations is product is being bought at the most. Business Intelligence is also another term that you may hear in reference to this as well. This allows companies to figure out where and how to market to certain areas.

Students are in a classroom setting or in an online setting for about 4 months. They have homework and real life applications. The classes are all taught by people that have been in the field for years and some have come through this program themselves and others have come through other programs and assisted in putting this curriculum together. If students commit to the program fulltime for 4 to 6 months they can complete the program and start to building their future. The program does require a lot of hard work and dedication. The classes are made up of people of diverse backgrounds. They have 40% of students that have a bachelor’s degree and 20% of them have Masters degrees, but have completed the program successfully even with no post high school education. It is taught in a way that anyone can learn this program if you are willing to learn the material.

After the program is completed

As the program gets most of the way through, students are offered an option to complete interview preparation. This area is ran by someone that is a great communicator and has a background in communication. Interview preparation not only focuses on going over ideas of questions that they may be faced with but many other variables. They work with students on body language, revising their resume for this type of field, eye contact, and structured answers. As part of the program, it is not an additional cost. The school offers mock interviews as well. This is a priceless part of the program. As the students come from all walks of life and this is a way to help the students be able to focus on their interview versus just solely on how to prepare on their own. I went to a traditional college and they did not offer this, but wish they would have. As time nears for them to complete their certification, they help place students in jobs. Students can be placed in jobs for six months as contract workers to gain experience and start to meet people and team up with companies in the industry. I was stoked about this as well as that is one of the hardest things for college students is trying to get a job in the industry. In college if you are able to complete and internship, this may not be so rough but many do not have that opportunity. They offer free lifetime ongoing training as things change with the industry. Please reread that sentence… this is something that most people are paying hundreds of dollars per year or over a few years to keep up with the times in their industry. As well as the ability to email their instructors and be a part of Google groups after certification. This allows current students, prior students, and instructors to discuss what other concerns are coming up in the workforce as well as providing the prior student with one more resource. Students are making $60,000-$65,000 a year coming out of the program and are placed with companies that have performance reviews yearly for raises.

If you are wondering as I was, is this something that will be obsolete in a few years. One of the statics I was given was that for every dollar spent on business intelligence a data analyst makes on average $10.00. What a way to put it in perspective.

Cost of the Program

I know this is always a concern for most. Many of us that have completed other programs are still paying off that debit. This program is offered at $1,199.00 and can be paid out over the course of the program. They have set up for payments to be paid via Paypal. They also have scholarships available and during this past weekends event, two people won money off their total price of the program if they decided to enroll for just joining and watching the outreach event for Veterans this past Saturday. Oh and there is no interest on payments. I think I have rarely heard of this with any kind of program that offers a payment plan.

All the students I visited with had similar information to share at different levels of the program. They felt the way the school is set up is in a way that sets them up for success. Many of them heard about it because someone they knew had been through the program and is now in the workforce in this field and grateful for the opportunity. One thing that didn’t change per person was that this program is not easy by any means, but if you use the resources available it is doable and the school offers a lot of support from the teachers and leadership. One student that started the program on Saturday named Wassem Sabri said, “He has no technical or data running experience, but is excited as his cousin has already completed the program and is doing well.” Another student, Mechale McDonald, completed the program a few months back and said she had started programs at Richland and DeVry prior and was ex military. She felt this program truly provided her with the tools and preparation to be able to be competitive in the field. She seemed a little shy and felt that the interview preparation was an additional plus as she had never worked in the field prior. The assistance of job placement was another big point she mentioned as helping streamline the stress of getting out in the field and searching for a position.

If you find yourself wondering if this maybe for you, then I would say take some time to review their information on their site. They have a wealth of information on their site. They discuss community involvement, how to get started, courses offered, FAQs, videos and contacts for questions. The website is http://www.colaberry.com/. Here is what I will say folks, if where you are is not working for you and you are open to working hard for a program that will be paid off within the time of the program as well as a decent salary, check it out. Colaberry can also be reached via Facebook and Twitter.
